Her father is livid over her dating a non-Greek. He has to learn to accept Ian; Ian has to learn to accept Toula's huge family, and Toula has to learn to accept herself.

It's probably even more amusing if you're Greek (I'm not, but I found it hilarious).

The show started off as a one woman comedy act before crossing over to film and is funny with the occasional genuinely touching insight. I haven't laughed so much in ages. I wonder when it comes out on video.

Plot Summary
In the 1960s, Frances "Baby" Houseman, a sweet daddy's girl, goes with her family to a resort in upstate New York's Catskill Mountains. Baby has grown up in privileged surroundings and all expect her to go on to college, join the Peace Corps and save the world before marrying a doctor, just like her father. Unexpectedly, Baby becomes infatuated with the camp's dance instructor, Johnny, a man whose background is vastly different from her own. Baby lies to her father to get money to pay for an illegal abortion for Johnny's dance partner (Johnny is not the father). She then fills in as Johnny's dance partner and it is as he is teaching her the dance routine that they fall in love. It all comes apart when Johnny's friend falls seriously ill after her abortion and Baby gets her father, who saves the girl's life. He then learns what Baby has been up to, who with and worse - that he funded the illegal abortion. He bans his daughter from any further association with "those people". In the first deliberately willful action of her life, Baby later sneaks out to see Johnny - ostensibly to apologize for her father's rudeness - and ends up consummating her relationship with Johnny.

A jealous fellow vacationer sees Baby sneaking out of Johnny's bungalow the next morning and in an act of retribution, tells management that he is responsible for a theft the evening before, knowing he would not furnish his real whereabouts. In an act of bravery, Baby states that Johnny is innocent, and alibis him by confessing that they were together all night. This revelation causes a huge rift in the family and Baby makes an impassioned speech to her angry and bereft father. At the closing night performances, and although he has been fired and banned from attending, Johnny returns and takes the stage to tell everyone about the woman whose faith in him and whose courage changed his life. They do one final show-stopping dance together. Baby's father learns that Johnny was not responsible for his partner's pregnancy and learns to accept that although his beloved daughter is transitioning to womanhood, she will always love him. ***Learn English by watching an English movie!*** Violet Sanford (Piper Perabo), leaves her hometown and her father Bill Sanford (John Goodman) to pursue her dreams in New York City. When leaving town to become a songwriter, she signs an autograph, which is pinned on the wall of the pizza place where she worked. The wall has many other autographs signed by the rest of the small town employees that left town hoping to make it big. [+/-]

Violet tries unsuccessfully, dozens of times, to get her demo tape noticed by the studios. With only a few dollars left in her pocket, she goes to an all-night diner and notices some girls flaunting the hundreds of dollars in tips they earned. After inquiring, she finds out that they work at a trendy bar named Coyote Ugly. She finds her way to the bar and convinces the barowner Lil (Maria Bello) to hire her because she looks like a kindergarten teacher who the childish bar patrons will come to see. After starting her job, she quickly discovers she must learn the ropes of singing, dancing, and performing wild acts before a rowdy crowd.

One night, she tries to get herself noticed by a music industry scout. The bartender jokingly points out Kevin O'Donnell (Adam Garcia), making her believe that he is the bar owner. When the joke is discovered, Violet feels that Kevin was making a fool out of her. This event eventually brings them closer together. Kevin tries to help her in overcoming her shyness on the stage and they finally become lovers, in spite of his attempt to hide his past and departure from Australia. She finally lands a deal with a record label after a successful performance at an open mic night at the Bowery Ballroom, which was attended by all of the 'Coyotes' from the Coyote Ugly saloon.

Jean Valjean is released from prison after serving 20 years of hard labor. Left without a sense of morality, he soon steals silverware from a bishop's house. He is caught; yet, when he is returned by the police, the bishop states the silver was a gift. His only request is that Valjean learn to do good for others. Jumping to 1822, Valjean is the humble and popular major of Vigau. He has an encounter with former inspector Javert who becomes suspicious of Valjean's identity. Javert eventually comes to recognize him and demand that Valjean be denouced. However, he lacks sufficient proof. All the while, Valjean develops a relationship with Fantine, a woman dismissed from her factory job for having a child out of wedlock. Malnourished, she dies after being abused by Javert and makes Valjean promise to raise her child, Cosette, as his own. The events of the July 1832 revolution affect them both as Cosette has fallen in love with a militant student Marius and Valjean faces Javert for the last time.

ข้อความยกมาจากบล็อกผู้เผยแพร่ค่ะ "หนังสือเรียน มานี มานะ ปิติ ชูใจ ยังจำกันได้ไหม หลักสูตรปี 2521 ชึ่งยุคนั้น ผมได้มีโอกาสเรียนเป็นรุ่นแรก หลังจากเรียนจบชั้น ป.6 แล้ว อีกประมาณ 2 ปีให้หลัง ทางโรงเรียนก็ได้เปลี่ยนตำราเล่มใหม่ หรืออาจจะเป็นหลักสูตรภาษาไทยเล่มใหม่ก็ได้ แต่ยังไงแล้วก็ยังรักหนังสือเรียน มานะ มานี ปิติ ชูใจ อยู่ เนื้อหาในเล่มนั้นเมื่่ออ่านแล้ว ชวนให้ติดตาม มีความเพลิดเพลินในการเรียน เมื่อเทียบกับยุคสมัยนี้ รู้สึกว่า เด็กสมัยนี้ไม่ค่อยชอบเรียนภาษาไทยกันเท่าไหร่นัก อาจจะเพราะว่าเนื้อหานั้นอ่านแล้วไม่เป็นเรื่องราวชวนให้ติดตามเหมือนสมัยก่อน สำหรับคนที่เคยเรียนก็คงจะรู้สึกนึกถึงความหลังนั้นนะครับ แต่ก็ได้เฝ้าแต่คิดเพราะมันเป็นอดิตไปแล้ว"
